William Hunter, MD, FRS, FSA (1718-1783), was an eminent Scottish anatomist and obstetrician, who trained his younger brother John at his school of anatomy in Covent Garden. John Hunter (1728-1793) later became a famed physiologist and surgeon in his own right, and William claimed several of his brother's discoveries. William Hunter became Physician Extraordinary to Queen Charlotte in 1764, the first Professor of Anatomy of the Royal Academy in 1768, and President of the Medical Society in 1781.
