Nine Year Old Discovers Fossil Of Hominid Species

MAROPENG, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 08 (SOUTH AFRICA, UAE, BRAZIL OUT): Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe (M) reveals the fossil found by 9 year-old, Matthew Berg. Matthew, son of Prof. Lee Berg (R), found the fossil of a new hominid species that lived 1.95 million years ago. A fossil of a female and a child were found. The fossils were named Australopithecus sediba. Australopithicus means "southern ape", after the Taung child, while sediba means "natural spring" in Sotho.
