Bea Arthur on Her Small Acting Roles for Sid Caesar

Interviewer: These are great stories. The first parts you get are the “under 5 lines” – can you maybe tell us what the “under 5 line” parts were? Bea: Oh, well they were-they were pretty-they were-I was very lucky to have worked a lot with Sid Caesar, whom I still think is god. They would hire extras for what they call under five – literally under five lines, so they wouldn’t have to pay you much, you know? And I got to do strange thing like, you know, play the boss's wife who-who, you know, cooked with wine or something or whatever… Amateur shows and I learned a lot – I learned a great deal from that man. Fabulous, fabulous man.
