The fresco, seen in its entirety, depicts the three moments of the Passion; on the left the Procession to Calvary with Jesus bearing the cross while He leaves a fortified city, accompanied by a procession of people and soldiers; the actual Crucifixion takes place in the upper part of the fresco, with Jesus in the middle and the two thieves at His sides; the scene is crowded by people, among which horsemen and armigers; the dark sky is crossed by flying angels; on the lower right there is the descent to Limbo where Christ meets the righteous' souls; in the centre of the frescoed wall opens a niche with an altar with a crucifix in white marble on its top.
