Austria Holds Legislative Elections

The conservative Austrian People's Party (OeVP) finished with 31,4%, the left-of-center Austrian Social Democrats (SPOe) with 26,6% and the right-wing Austria Freedom Party (FPOe) with 26,4%. The OevP will seek a coalition partner to create a new government, though its current partner, the SPOe of Chancellor Christian Kern, have indicated it will not seek to be in a coalition again with the OeVP following the election. This opens the door for the FPOe, which has run on a "fairness for Austrians" campaign with anti-immigrants, anti-refugees and anti-Islam tones, to be a possible coalition member.
