GUDERMES, RUSSIAN FEDERATION: A picture taken 08 November 2004 in Gudermes shows dead bodies of Chechen rebels, which were killed by soldiers of Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov. Teenage Russian conscripts with fear darting in their eyes rolled Soviet tanks into rebel Chechnya 10 years ago to deliver a morale boosting "small victorious war." Today's soldiers are waging a different war ordered by a new president who had his own logic for trying to bring the Muslim republic to heel. And the conflict itself has changed in many ways.
