Gao Xingjian - Chinese Writer

Gao Xingjian , Chinese writer, circa May 2008. Gao is well-known as a playwright and novelist, and he is also a noted translator, screenwriter and painter. In the late 1980s Gao moved to France and in 1998 he was granted French citizenship. He wrote the political drama Fugitives in 1989 which made reference to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and resulted in all his works being banned from performance in China.
