Former Dominican Minister of Public Works Victor Diaz Rua (L) and the former director of the Dominican Electricity Corporation Cesar Domingo Sanchez Torres, detained in relation to the Odebrecht corruption scandal, are being transferred from the Palace of Justice in Santo Domingo to the Najayo prison on June 12, 2017 days after Supreme Court of Justice judge Francisco Ortega Polanco approved a preventive prison request against them. Police arrested eight people including a government minister in the Dominican Republic on May 29 in a corruption probe into disgraced Brazilian firm Odebrecht, which admitted paying $92 million in bribes to gain contracts in the country, prosecutors said.
