A stunning aerial photo of Jakarta city, Indonesia taken from the northern coastline of Java island looking southwards to the central mountain spine of western Java. Despite the sunny cloud-free day in this March 2018 photo, a smoggy haze lies over the metropolitan area of Jakarta. A large cluster of city skyscrapers is visible through the haze. Two strato-volcanoes, Gunung Gede on the far left horizon and Gunung Salak in the centre, dominate the hinterland geography of the Jakarta area. The metropolitan area of Greater Jakarta has a population that exceeds 30 million people.
