Schotterstrecke, Meru Kenia 1958 Mercedes 180E Auto - Stock-Fotografie

Note to inspector: This is a film scan. This is the red dirt road from Mount Kenya to Meru, Kenya, East Africa. The distant car is a 1958 Mercedes 180E, believed at the time (1983) to be the only one in Kenya. It was the red of the road against the blue of the sky that encouraged the photographer to click the shutter. The Mercedes managed to get about 8000 feet / about 2500 metres up Mount Kenya before the rarified air caused the engine to fail. Also, its breaks were too soft to fully stop the car on the steep slopes on the way up north to Meru National Park. Scan from an original photograph taken in 1983 with Kodachrome 64 film.
