Facebook General Counsel statement at Senate Intelligence hearing

Facebook Vice President and General Counsel Colin Stretch reads a prepared statement at a hearing on mitigating foreign interference in United States democracy before the Senate Intelligence Committee. Stretch says an investigation by his company found fake accounts used to place ads on Facebook and Instagram that reach millions of Americans, that in the aggregate those ads and posts were a very small fraction of the overall content, that Facebook is making very significant investments in hiring at reviewers, doubling security engineering efforts, tighter add content restrictions and new tools and requirements on documentation from political ad buyers. Stretch says the company added over 1000 people to the global ads review team and invests more in machine learning to better understand when to flag and take down ads, expanding policies to prevent those that use more subtle expressions of violence.
