Brixton Market Enjoys A Revival

Brixton Village has enjoyed a revival over the past year with many shops that previously laid empty now home to a variety of restaurants, boutiques and galleries. This is thanks largely to a revitalization project led by the nonprofit organization 'Space Makers Agency' in cooperation with a local group, 'Friends of Brixton Market', who succeeded in getting the market listed by the Department of Culture for heritage protection. Originally the heart of London's Afro-Caribbean community in the 1920's and 30's, the area is attracting a young and creative demographic bringing much needed independent businesses and projects to the arcade.
