NOVEMBER 3, 2003 - Near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada - Gloved hands hold a sample of freshly-mined oil sands at Suncor Energy's <cq>oil sands mine and upgrade facility north of Fort McMurray in northeastern Alberta, Canada. The oil sands have the consistency of cookie dough at room temperature, are solid at freezing temperatures, and flow like molasses when heated. Refinery-ready feedstock and diesel fuel is shipped by pipeline from Fort McMurray to Suncor's Denver refinery, formerly owned by Conoco.
